Dr Trevor Nicholson is a Consultant Respiratory Physician with clinical interests in bronchiectasis, sarcoidosis, COPD, chronic cough, dyspnoea (shortness of breath), respiratory muscle weakness, sleep apnoea, as well as general respiratory conditions.
He undertook his specialist training in Respiratory Medicine in Ireland, at Cork University Hospital, St James’s Hospital, Dublin and also St. Vincent’s Hospital Dublin. He developed sub-specialist interests in bronchiectasis during his specialist training in Ireland, and while undertaking research at St. Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin. Following this, he pursued dual Fellowship training in both Pulmonary Medicine and also Critical Care Medicine at Northwestern University/Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. During his time there, he developed further interests in non-invasive ventilation and respiratory muscle weakness, and has published research in these fields. While in Chicago, he also developed an interest in the management of Sarcoidosis.
He is interested in the management of chronic cough and also difficult-to-treat dyspnoea, as well as combined cardiac-respiratory illnesses. In collaboration with colleagues in Thoracic surgery, he also has an interest in the surgical and non-surgical treatment approaches to treatment of emphysema.
