First Blackrock Clinic Private Ambulance Hits the Streets

31st Jan 2014

Patients can use private ambulance for non-emergency transport to Blackrock Clinic’s Emergency Department

Blackrock Clinic’s first branded, private ambulance has hit County Dublin’s roads.  The ambulance is operated by Medicall Ambulance Service and allows patients to order transport by private ambulance to the hospital’s Emergency Department or for an elective procedure.

The ambulance is highly suitable for a patient who is too unwell to travel by car, unable to drive due to disability, doesn’t want to go to a public A&E or where they are being transferred from a nursing home.

A private ambulance is not a 999/112 emergency service and may not be able to attend to patients in the immediate few minutes after a call.  If a patient is in urgent need of attention, it is strongly recommended that a 999/112 ambulance is called and the patient is taken directly to a public hospital Accident and Emergency Department.

Using the Blackrock Clinic private ambulance for non-emergency transport is very straight forward.  Patients simply call the Blackrock Clinic Emergency Departmenton 01 206 4479 to advise on intended use of the Medicall Ambulance Service.  Patients then subsequently call Medicall Ambulance Service on 1890 666 999.  The service cost varies depending on distance but should cost no more than €200 and where applicable, such as transport from a nursing home, private health insurance may cover these costs.

For peace of mind, patients who have the equivalent or higher of VHI plan B (now called HealthPlus Access), Aviva Level 2, Laya Essential Plus and GloHealth Better Plan will be fully covered in the event of requiring admission to the hospital.  The normal supplements payable by these plans are currently waived.

Blackrock Clinic CEO, Bryan Harty said:

“Access to a private ambulance is very valuable for many patients who are too uncomfortable or unwell to travel by car.  The ambulance is fully equipped to the highest European safety standards and crewed by an experienced, dedicated team of Advanced Paramedics, Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians”.

“The ambulance service offers a great alternative to the patient who can choose their times and is not in urgent need of assistance, but still needs the swift, consultant-delivered care of Blackrock Clinic’s Emergency Department” he concluded.
