Back Triage Clinic
This back screening programme has been established since 2005 to decide with the patient the best management plan for the patient's low back pain.
The main aim of the back triage clinic is to identify those patients with serious spinal pathology and neurological deficit so that further medical and surgical interventions can be commenced appropriately and efficiently.
The Purpose of the Clinic
- Early and effective care for patients diagnosed with mechanical back pain
- Early diagnosis triage to differentially diagnose between simple back ache, nerve root pain and possible serious pathology and determine appropriate management
- Rapid GP access to a specialised team
- Assist GP with education and support
- Prompt referrals to the Orthopaedic surgeons or Neurosurgeons when referrals are indicated
- Provide an extensive back rehabilitation service based on current best practice
- Educate patients and the community at large to dispel inappropriate beliefs regarding back pain and its management
- Teach patient how to best self manage their problem
