Houlihan, Prof. Diarmaid
Specialist Interests: Liver disease, Gastrointestinal disease, Diagnostic and Interventional upper and lower Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
Associate Prof Diarmaid Houlihan is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist in St Vincent’s University Hospital and Blackrock Clinic. He is a graduate of NUI Galway in 2002 and completed post graduate training in Queen Elizabeth hospital in Birmingham, UK. He was appointed to his current post in 2012.
He was awarded a Medical Research Council Research Clinical Training Fellowship in 2008 and completed his PhD in the University of Birmingham, focusing on the therapeutic potential of stem cells in Gastrointestinal and Liver disease. He has numerous publications in international peer reviewed journals in the field of liver his specialist areas.
Associate Prof Diarmaid Houlihan is the Medical Director of The Liver Unit & National Liver Transplant Unit. He is the Research Chair of Irish Hepatitis C Outcomes Research Network.
He currently takes an active role in undergraduate and postgraduate education and research meetings.
