Professional Profile

Brian is a consultant general & colorectal surgeon and provides the clinical lead for rectal cancer at St James’s Hospital and the Dublin Midlands Group. He is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin in 1995, graduating with first class honours and prizes in Surgery. He trained in Dublin before undertaking research towards a Doctorate in Colorectal cancer genetics at the University of Hull, UK.  He returned to Ireland for Specialist Registrar training in Galway, Cork and Dublin. He then undertook two fellowships in colorectal surgery, one in Perth, Western Australia and the other in Brisbane, Queensland, where he specialised in laparoscopic colorectal resection. He was appointed a consultant to St James’s in 2006. He is a lecturer in Surgery in TCD and has published widely on colorectal cancer and minimally invasive approaches to colorectal diseases.  He lives nearby in Dublin with his Australian wife and three children.
