Professional Profile
Dr Cathal O’Keeffe graduated from University College Dublin in 1993 and subsequently obtained his MRPCI in 1996. He undertook specialist training in gastroenterology and internal medicine at St Vincent’s University Hospital and Beaumont Hospital and was awarded his CCST in 2004. While attached to the Liver Transplant Unit in St Vincent’s University Hospital he undertook research into the role of neuro-humoral mechanisms in liver disease and was awarded his MD from University College Dublin in 2004. He also holds a Diploma in Tropical Medicine from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He currently works part-time as a Consultant Gastroenterologist in Beaumont Hospital as well as practicing in St Vincent’s Private Hospital, Dublin and Mount Carmel Hospital, Dublin.
Personal Profile
Dr O’Keeffe has a keen interest in overseas development, has worked in Sudan and Uganda and travelled extensively throughout Africa. In 2004 he was awarded an MSc in Humanitarian Assistance from University College Dublin and in 2006 established the charity Link Community Development (Ireland) to support education and health projects in Africa.
