Prosthodontics

3rd Apr 2018

Prosthodontics is the dental specialty concerned with the rehabilitation and maintenance of oral function, comfort, appearance and health of people with missing or deficient teeth.

A specialist prosthodontist is a dentist who undertakes an additional three years of specialist training after qualifying as a general dentist. This extensive training and experience provides specialist prosthodontists with a special understanding of the dynamics of a smile, the preservation of a healthy mouth and the provision of replacement teeth.

As the architect of a dental treatment plan, a specialist prosthodontist collaborates with general dentists, other dental specialists and health professionals to develop solutions to dental concerns and achieve the best possible result.

Specialist prosthodontists are highly trained in state of the art techniques and procedures for treating many diverse and complex dental conditions and restoring optimum function and aesthetics. These include:

  • veneers,
  • crowns,
  • bridges,
  • complete and removable partial dentures,
  • dental implants and,
  • traumatic dental injuries,
  • the coordinating and planning of a full mouth reconstruction including same day teeth and restoration of zygomatic implants.
