Blackrock Clinic people turn out for the RNLI Lough Derg Charity Cycle
16th May 2022
Blackrock Clinic was delighted to support the Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s ‘Lap The Lake 2022’ Lough Derg Charity Cycle this month.
The cycle was a non-competitive event, with cyclists of all experience levels being encouraged to participate. A fantastic 233 cyclists took part in the event, including some 30 of our staff members and consultants.
For their entry fee, each cyclist was provided with a t-shirt, goody bag, a reusable lifeboat water bottle and many other treats. First aid, out riders, marshals and bike maintenance were also provided during the event, while parking and showers were available at Lough Derg Yacht Club.
The scenery at every point along the 130km cycle was unparalleled, giving participants a chance to appreciate the beauty of Lough Derg and the River Shannon. Even the sun made an unsolicited appearance.
There was a comfort stop at Le Bateau, Emerald Star, Portumna, with lots of tasty treats for all participants. After completing the cycle, participants were invited to return to the Lifeboat Station at Lough Derg Yacht Club in Dromineer, to relax and enjoy a ‘hog roast’ dinner.
All funds raised on the day went to the RNLI, to support the volunteer lifeboat crew. This is a crew who are available 24/7 for 365 days of the year to provide rescue inland and at sea, and they require extensive training and equipment to perform their duties.
Supporting events such as ‘Lap The Lake 2022’ is important to us here at Blackrock Clinic. Not only does it encourage help to promote healthy living, it is also in keeping with our constant efforts to give back to our community, in many ways, big and small.
We wish to thank and congratulate all those who took part in this tough but enjoyable challenge. Let’s hope we can do it all again next year!
