Shane joined Blackrock Clinic in 2016. He currently works full time as our Specialist Occupational Therapist in Hand Therapy. Shane has particular expertise in injury management for conditions affecting the fingers, hand, wrist and forearm.
Shane graduated from Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen in 2011 achieving an Honours degree in Occupational Therapy. Shane worked in Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge from 2012 to 2015 as a Senior Occupational Therapist, specialising in Hand therapy since 2013. While working in Addenbrookes hospital Shane worked as part of a dynamic hand therapy team. Shane specialised in the treatment of Plastics, Orthopaedics, Rheumatology, Trauma and Elective Surgery. Weekly fracture clinic cover with Orthopaedic surgeons allowed Shane to develop extensive experience in fracture management and rehabilitation.
Shane returned to Ireland in 2015 to work in Cappagh National Orthopaedic Hospital. He continued to work in both inpatient Orthopaedics and Outpatient Hand Therapy, leading a team of Occupational Therapists.
Shane has a proud record of Professional development. Shane has achieved extensive qualifications in the area of Hand Therapy through accredited courses recognised by the British association of hand therapy (BAHT), extending his skill and experience in the speciality of Hand Therapy. Further to this, Shane is currently furthering his qualification and commitment to hand therapy by undergoing a Masters in Hand Therapy through the University of Derby.
Shane is a member of the Association of Occupational Therapists of Ireland (AOTI), Irish Association of Hand Therapists (IAHT) and British Association of Hand Therapy (BAHT).
