Cardiac MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
Cardiac MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) allows cardiologists to see the heart in more detail than any other imaging format available. This facilitates non-invasive investigation that can more accurately identify those individuals in need of coronary angiography, coronary stenting or bypass operations.
Images are of such high quality the scan can dramatically change the optimum course of treatment for patients with coronary artery disease and heart failure.
Vitally, Cardiac MRI imaging can screen for silent evidence of inherited heart conditions especially those responsible for the death of one to two sportsmen every week in Ireland.
Blackrock Clinic launched Ireland’s first dedicated Cardiac MRI scanner earlier this year. Since this is the only dedicated Cardiac MRI scanner, patients can be confident in the skill, proficiency and judgement concentrated in the department.
This scan is available to outpatients with a GP or consultant referral. Please submit your referral to the Outpatient Booking Office by Fax: 01 206 4368 where it will be reviewed by the Consultant in the department prior to an appointment being offered.
