Blackrock Clinic in support of Women’s Hockey Development Squad

16th Jul 2021

Blackrock Clinic is delighted to support the Ireland Women’s Hockey Development Squad as they begin a weekend of fixtures against Wales in Belfast.

The Development Squad, which is made up of some of Ireland’s most exciting emerging hockey players, will be testing themselves against the Welsh Senior Ladies team.

Three games will be taking place at Jordanstown hockey pitch, with the first match being played this evening, followed by a second match on Saturday, and one final contest against the Welsh on Sunday evening.

Blackrock Clinic has been sponsoring the Development Squad since 2017. Sports fans across Ireland have fond memories of the Women’s Hockey World Cup in 2018, when Ireland’s Senior team made history by reaching the final.

Since then there has been a significant growth in the sport here, with many more women and girls taking it up.

Before heading to Belfast, two of the Development Squad’s players – Caitlin Sherin and Lisa Mulcahy (pictured here) – visited Blackrock Clinic, where they were congratulated by the hospital’s Chief Executive James O’Donoghue for their achievements on and off the pitch.

We very much look  forward to the games this weekend, and to watching the contribution these  players will make to Irish hockey in the coming years.

“The Development Squad is a vital part of bringing through the next generation of players who will continue to represent Ireland with pride. Blackrock Clinic is proud to have sponsored this group over the last four years, and we will all be rooting for them during this weekend’s games in Belfast,” O’Donoghue added.
